BARN HUNT
What is Barn Hunt?
Barn hunt is a sport in which dogs must use their nose to locate rats safely enclosed in aerated tubes. The rats are hidden in a barn (our heated training building) with straw, hay bales, and other obstacles. Each dog has to find all the rat tubes inside the ring as fast and accurately as possible. They must scent discriminate between empty tubes, tubes containing dirty litter (but no rat) and the "live" tubes which contain a rat. Only one dog goes at a time and my rats are my beloved spoiled pets so only spend a minimal amount of time in the tube (which they love as they know they get treats in there) before being rotated out back to their 4-level rat condo!
I will be offering drop in training opportunities on Sundays starting Sunday November 20. I’ve done up a form with requirements to register it is indoors in our 2550 square foot heated rubber matted training hall with straw bales, regulation rat tubes and courses. These are not lessons but rather a place and equipment / rats to practice on and prep for trials. If you are new to the sport you are welcome to come but know that the first session will be an orientation and opportunity to watch and learn from others before you work your dog at the end of that first session.
$20 per drop in session (per dog)
